The Player Pathway provides an environment that helps junior players realise their potential and is made up of the following tiers:
Development Centres, Academy Centres, Performance Centres, Futures Cup, Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE), National Age Group Squads (NAGs) and U21 / Development Programme.

The renewal of your membership to the Essex Umpiring Association is now due and we would ask you to pay using the details on the renewal form. Before making payment, please check with your club to find out if they are making a bulk payment for umpires as double payments cause problems for the treasurer. The fee this year will be £5 for adult members, and £2 for Under 18 members. If you intend to umpire League games for your Club, please remember that you have to be member of a County Umpiring Association. Through the England Hockey Technical Appointments Panel, England Hockey are hosting a series of Free, Introductory sessions across the country to allow interested parties to come and learn what is involved with being a Technical Official within the National League and England Hockey Competitions. The day will be a mix of discussion and practical elements, where you will learn “on the job” whilst watching teams prepare for their campaigns within the top regional leagues or national league. The sessions are free of charge and being led by one of the Regional Technical Official Co-Ordinators, who have a host of experience and are happy to share their knowledge with you. The East Young Umpire Pathway is running a series of Young Umpire Training Day's across the region. This is a great first step to get involved in officiating and start your umpiring career. Who is it for? People who are keen to umpire that are of secondary school age (11 - 16 years old). If you are over the age of 16, we recommend you take the England Hockey Level 1 Course When and where is it? A number of events are being held across the region, in June and July, with one being held in Essex, at Old Loughtonians Hockey Club on 2nd June How much is it? £20 per person to attend, which includes a whistle and a free umpiring shirt! What do I get out of it? You will become an East qualified Young Umpire, which will allow you to officiate at a number of in2hockey events. You'll be able to umpire the junior games within your club, and get the opportunity to progress further by umpiring at junior county events, such as Academy Centres. You'll also be added to the East Young Umpire Pathway's Academy Programme, where the support team of coaches and mentors will be on hand to help your progression and development. Don't worry, you wont be asked to umpire for the adult sides on a Saturday just yet. What would I need to attend? Notepad and pen, refreshments for the day and your playing kit - yes you get to play! This course involves both theory and practical elements, and is highly interactive to ensure you learn as much as you can, but also have a fun time. As part of the increase in matches within the National League for the 2019/20 season, NPUA with England Hockey are looking to recruit a second Umpiring Appointments Administrator to assist Colin Barthorpe with the umpiring appointments. The role, whilst being recruited by England Hockey, will be under the direct line management and responsibilities of the NPUA. Saying this, applicants do not need to be current members of the NPUA to apply and a representative group of key stakeholders are involved with this recruitment process. Within EHUA we are always looking for ways and opportunities to further develop and encourage umpiring within the County. With a new season about to start we are we are looking to train and develop new umpire coaches. Is this something you would be interested in? Umpire coaches are vital in our ability to raise consistency and standards across the county. There are umpires who have recently completed their Level 1 course who need some looking after and development and we also need to be able to help and assist those umpires have the desire to progress towards the County or Regional Pools and perhaps beyond. EHU has a proud reputation of developing umpires - one that we would like to continue in the years ahead. The more coaches we have the greater coverage we can provide. Even if you might only be available one or two Saturdays per month we would be delighted to hear from you. Additionally for ALL active umpires irrespective of how long you have been umpiring we have an opportunity for you to participate in open and frank discussions, to receive some tips and advice and more importantly to ask the questions you may have always wanted to ask but have not done so.
