Safeguarding and Protecting our Young Umpires is exceptionally important. England Hockey have specific recommendations regarding young umpire officiating hockey matches. Essex Hockey Umpiring Association and Essex County Young Umpires Action Group, support these recommendations fully, and have adopted them for the Essex Young Umpire Development Programme.
Any appointments of young umpires to any events made by either group, will only be made after careful consideration of the abilities, welfare and development needs of any young umpires concerned.
No matter what the appointment is, or who is appointing, we expect everyone in Essex to adhere to the Safeguarding and Protecting policy - this includes the action group, hockey associations and clubs!
If any appointing body is found to be in breach of these policies, appropriate action will be taken. These safeguarding policies exist for the interest of the young person involved, and not following them puts these young people in danger.
To ensure Essex Hockey Umpiring Association and the Essex Young Umpire Development Programme adhere to these policies on all our appointments, as well as appointing umpires, we will also appoint Young Umpire Developers, as a support team.
If you have any questions, issues or would like further information, please contact the Young Umpire Development Manager or Safeguarding Officer
